Preparation Is Key

Many students find the college application process intimidating, even discouraging. That is why the first rule of college preparation is to involve your parents and high school counselor at every step. They can provide the motivation and guidance you need along the way.

Of course, there is no guarantee to getting into any particular college. Even top students get turned away from their first choices. You can, however, significantly improve your chances by studying hard, rounding out your interests, and following an organized plan to get you there.

Southern's Admission Process

Southern University operates on a two semester plan (fall & spring) and a maymester, an eight-week summer semester, a two four week summer semester. In compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Southern University is open to all persons who are eligible for admission, regardless of race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, physical disabilities, veteran status, and any other non-merit factors. Eligibility for admission is determined by the Office of Admissions in accordance with University policies.

Southern University offers special programs for high school juniors and seniors or high school graduates with exceptional college preparatory credentials. The qualified student can seek early or concurrent admission to the university and can petition for advanced standing through credit by examination.
